Style Fleur Q & A

by Charlotte Olsson Bauer

Good Morning!

Welcome to all the new followers again this week!

Style Fleur Q & A is an opportunity to have your style questions answered on a weekly basis. You can email, text, comment or tweet them to @thestylefleur.

This weeks question is:

Q: I was wondering if it is Ok to wash Cashmere? The label on mine states Dry Cleaning but it always comes back with that funny, toxic smell. What do you think/recommend?

A: Fantastic question. The care labels for cashmere generally do say "Dry Clean Only" but hand washing it is absolutely fine, if it is done the right way. I totally understand about the slightly funny odor the chemicals leave on your clothing from the dry cleaners too - it is not pleasant, is it?! I would hand wash it in cool/warm water, using a small amount of very mild detergent such as woolite or even a touch of natural baby shampoo. Press out the excess water and whatever you do, do not wring it, as the sweater will lose its shape. The best way to get rid of all the water is to use a large salad spinner - one with a pull cord; they are way more effective and totally get rid of all that excess water! Then, lay it down flat on a towel to dry and reshape it; try not to stretch it. Once dry, I would then fold it, using a lavender folding board, as this will not only keep your sweater neat and tidy but it will smell great too. You should never hang cashmere or knitwear, as the pull of gravity will distort the shape and leave horrible bumps on the shoulders.

BONUS TIP: Always wondered if you have a good quality cashmere? You should stretch out the body of the garment to see if it snaps back. A lower quality cashmere will definitely not do that.

Spring/Summer is on it's way, which means more questions are coming in related to the warmer weather. I already have a few questions in line re: bathing suits for different body shapes, caring for swimwear, beach cover ups but does anybody else have any STYLE QUESTIONS related to clothing, accessories etc. for the upcoming season? Just let me know, I am more than happy to get you on the Q & A list!

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!
